Priscilla Lee Scott

May 4, 1954 — February 22, 2024

El Paso

Priscilla Lee Scott of El Paso, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024, after a short, but fierce, battle with lung and pancreatic cancer. She will be best remembered for her feisty spirit, love of animals, culinary talents, passion for traveling, holiday parties, and her dedicated service of nearly 25 years as teacher in her community.

Priscilla was born May 4, 1954, at Fort Benning U.S. Army Hospital in Columbus, Georgia to Augustine and Johnnie Lally. As a military child, she lived in different places including Georgia, Massachusetts and Hawaii before finally settling in El Paso where she remained and raised a family of her own. She was a proud graduate of the Austin High School Class of 1972. After graduation she held various jobs including banker, real estate agent, mortgage officer, and even opened her own catering business and cleaning business for a short time. She belonged to a number of organizations in her community including the Women’s Club, Junior League, Bethel Temple, and Grace Presbyterian Church, amongst others. Priscilla could often be found at her daughter’s school volunteering as a room mother, organizing fundraisers and school trips, substitute teaching, planning a party of some sort, or bailing her daughter out of the principal’s office for some silly antic.

She was an alumni of New Mexico State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Family and Consumer Science in 2000 followed by her Master’s in Agricultural Extension Education in 2003. In 2000, she began her career as a Culinary Art teacher at Gadsden High School where she worked with students as they earned their way into national competitions and learned about culinary and management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and food service industry. She also worked at Americas High School, Chapin High School, and Franklin High School. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Leanna Lucero, as well as her ex-husband and friend, Ray Lucero, daughter-in-law, Dr. Angela Owens, her grandchild, Bailey Castañeda, her two dogs, extended family, and lifetime friends. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, husband – Roland Scott (Scotty), and numerous furry friends. Her generous spirit, quick wit, and love of scary movies will forever be missed, but we are grateful for the lessons learned, the laughs shared, and the memories created together.
