Rest in Peace, Phyllis Harris.
Longtime El Paso resident Phyllis Groff Harris died on the 3rd February, 2021. She was born the 15th September, 1949, in a military hospital in Austria. Her father; Joseph Groff was in the United States Army, and her mother; Ingeborg Groff was a native of Vienna, Austria. The family moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1956. After graduating from Irvin High School, Mrs. Harris served in the United States Air Force until becoming pregnant with her first child.
Although she had no formal degrees or credentials, she learned over the years about law, finances, real estate, and numerous other subjects, and could hold her own in conversation about nearly anything--if she wanted to. Mrs. Harris had a powerful mind, but her heart was even stronger. She was a blood donor for many years, and gave generously to help others, often anonymously. She never hesitated to stand up for herself or for anyone when needed. Mrs. Harris had a special fondness for, and connection to, cats throughout her life; she admired their independence--of which she had plenty herself.
But stronger than her love of cats was her love for her family, especially her daughter and son. Mrs. Harris's husband Jim died in 2008. Her mother and two brothers also predeceased her. Survivors include her father, a sister, a brother, several grandchildren, and her cherished children, Diane and Robert.
