Phyllis Elizabeth Dawson Campbell
Another of the greatest generation is gone with the passing of Phyllis Elizabeth (Dawson) Campbell, on August 3, 2018. Smart and competitive, she was a National Spelling Bee contestant, Valedictorian, and later became an avid bridge and game board player. In 1944, she married Russell Campbell, whose Air Force career took them all over the world. They retired to the home they bought in El Paso where they lived until their deaths. She was a kind, quiet, and loving woman who was also tough and resilient. She faced many adversities with the attitude of “do what you have to do, don’t complain, and don’t blame.”
Phyllis is survived by her children, Carolyn (Paul) Douglass, Steve Campbell, Janis (Dustin) Blystone, six amazing grandchildren (Kara Thom, Erin Bies, Johndavid Douglass, Katy, Elisa, and Austin Andrade), and six incredible great-grandchildren (TJ and Tyler Bies, McKenna, Kendall, Jocelyn, and Blake Thom).
Private burial will be at Ft. Bliss Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to a charity of your choice.
