Percy Lee Welch

October 3, 1945 — January 21, 2010

On a rural route in a small town located in Edwards, Mississippi, Percy Lee Welch was born to Queen E. Welch. It was on October 3, 1945 that a husband and daddy, which will always be remembered, was born. Percy was raised by Queen’s sister Ethel Thomas and Uncle-in-law Willie Thomas in the small town of Tallulah, La. Here, in this town, Percy grew up and decided to serve his country by enlisting in the military at the tender age of 17 years old. Three years into his service to the country, the U.S. began to send combat troops heavily into the Vietnam conflict, in which Percy was counted in that number. After seven years of duty Percy returned home in March of 1969 and married Myrtle Irene Welch at the age of twenty five, after one year of engagement. Stationed in New Port News, Virginia, is where he and Irene had their first child, Kenneth Welch who would be the first of four beautiful children. While still active in the military Percy was fortunate to see and travel the world being stationed in places such as Germany, Korea and Vietnam. It was El Paso, Texas where he received his final duty station, by which he medically retired from the military as a Staff Sergeant (SSG), at thirty five years of age. Here in El Paso Percy and Irene built not only a home, but most importantly a family. Their life together was blessed by the birth of three additional children, Angela Welch, Christopher Welch, and Leslie Welch. Our beloved husband and dad is remembered by four children Kenneth Welch, Angela (Welch) Williams, Christopher Welch and Leslie Welch, eight grand children Tiffany Welch, Marcus Welch, Komariah Welch, Quiyana Welch, Imani Williams, Amarhy Williams, Alef Williams, and Layla Welch, one living brother James (preceded by two brothers Robert and Roger), five sisters Gwen, Shirley, Vicky, Cynthia, Margaret, and a host of nephews and nieces. We will always remember and honor SSG Percy L. Welch. May his life as a husband and father continue to give us strength and a life long list of memories to cherish.
