The Champ has been called home. Pedro “Pete” G. Camacho passed away on March 9, 2021, at 88 years old. Pete was a boxer with the Golden Gloves and later with the military (82nd Airborne). In 2002 he was inducted into the El Paso Boxing Hall of Fame. Pete worked as a bus driver with El Paso City Lines that later became SCAT, then with the YISD (he drove the children with special needs, which he loved). Pete was a fun-loving guy and everyone he met would become his friend. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Maria T. Camacho, daughters Lynda Camacho, Sandy Camacho, Ruby Rivera (Rick), Becky Valtierra (Bobby), brother Manny Camacho, grandchildren, Hannah Camacho-Pate, Nathan Ramos, Christopher Valtierra, Lexy Valtierra, Albert Rivera, Lauren Rivera, Alyssa Rivera, great grandchildren Jacob Ramos, Mason Marrero, many brother and sister in laws, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Dolores Camacho, brothers, Miguel and Ricardo Camacho, sisters, Angie Lopez, Dolores Mata, Monica Calderon, and grandson Joshua Ramos. A special thanks to Hospice of El Paso for taking care of him in his last days. Pete will be greatly missed. We celebrate his life.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm - 4:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home - Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00am on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 4800 Byron St. Committal Service to follow at 10:00am on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. All Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home - Northeast.
