Paul Joseph Dieter

Retired CW4 Paul Joseph Dieter Sr., passed away Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 after a short illness while on vacation in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 8, 1925 in Cedar Rapids, NE. and was a resident of El Paso for the last 47 years. He served in the US Army for 28 years and fought in World War II serving under General Patton at the “Battle of the Bulge”, in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam. During his military service he received numerous commendations and awards. He was preceded in death by Anna, his wife of 44 years, his parents Edward J. Sr. and Elizabeth Dieter, his sisters, Mildred Hansen, Mary Ann Keller, Betty Ammons and Helen Brandt, his brothers Daniel F. Dieter and Edward J. Dieter Jr., and lifelong friends Donald Pelton and Andrew Durk. He is survived by his long-time companion of over 20 years Caroline Weir, his sons Edward P. Dieter and wife Janice, Paul J. Dieter Jr. and wife Cheri, and Richard C. Dieter all of El Paso, TX., Donald J. Dieter of Phoenix, AZ., Steven M. Dieter and Michael Svoboda of Las Vegas, NV., his sister Dorothy Kemp of Omaha, NE., Jackie Eggering, Steven Weir, Joseph Weir, Richard Weir, and Carol Braun (Dieter) of El Paso, TX, Grandchildren Kevin Dieter, Lena Macias, Sharon Cavitt, Kendra Dieter, Robert Dieter, Crystal Dieter, Richard Dieter Jr., Steven Dieter, Jackie Dieter and 16 Great-grandchildren. He touched so many hearts and will be missed by everyone. Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 5 pm to 9 pm. Committal service will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson, on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10 am with Full Military Honors. The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in the name of Paul Dieter to the Texas State Veterans Home Attn: Susan, 9650 Kenworthy St., El Paso Texas 79924. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
