Patsy Virginia Smith Cox, 83, passed away September 9, 2010 in El Paso, TX where she resided for the past 53 years. Patsy, daughter of Sam Houston and Allie Mae Thompson Smith, was born in Mangum, OK on January 26, 1927. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Charles Smith. She and the late James Clay Cox, former athletic director for EPISD, were married January 9, 1944 and shared 45 blissful years together. Both were members of the Church of Christ and Mrs. Cox was a World Bible School teacher and supporter of ministries world-wide. Patsy possessed a warm, caring, and joyful nature that touched and inspired many. Her ever-present smile and infectious laugh will be dearly missed by family and friends. Patsy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Wes Fortney of El Paso; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Vicki Cox of El Paso; granddaughter Jessica, along with her husband Edward Lato, of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters Rebecca Parker of Los Angeles, CA; Lauren Cox of Waco, TX; and Alyssa Cox of Wichita, KS; a grandson and his wife, Hayden and Laura Parker, and their daughter Vivian of Hobbs, NM. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-NE.
