PATRICK H. MEIGHEN

(Ret.) MAJ Patrick H. Meighen passed away at Providence Memorial Hospital, El Paso, Texas, on 26 Feb 2007. He was born 2 Mar 1915 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to Mr. Patrick H. and Mary K. Meighen. He enlisted in the United States Army at Baltimore, Maryland on 23 Aug 1940. He retired on 31 Oct 1960. He served in England, Germany, Korea, Japan, and various locations within the United States. While in England he was instrumental in getting fuel to General Patton’s Armored Division after he ran out of fuel on the drive to Paris after the invasion on D-Day. He was assigned to Templehof Air Base in Berlin when the airlift, known as operation Vittles began in June 1948. In Korea, after the conflict, in 1953 he was assigned as the Ordinance Field Representative to assist and determine the disposition of ordinance type equipment of Divisions and other Units leaving Korea (Operation Rollup). While in the United States Army he received various medals and ribbons. He also received the Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters. He became a Civil Service employee at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico in November 1960, retired from Civil Service in 1978. While in Civil Service he received three Sustained Superior Performance Awards and several Letters of Commendation. He and his wife Keiko and son Hubert Vencent, who survive, have lived in El Paso since 1960. He is also survived by his brother Charles (San Francisco, CA), and sister, Margaret Engle (Cheswick, PA). Deceased are brothers: William, Bernard, Hubert, and James Meighen; sister: Noretta. MAJ Meighen was a life long member of the Retired Officers Association and the Pioneer Group at White Sands Missile Range. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, from 9 to 10 AM, Monday, March 5th. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 5th, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with interment following at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
