Patrick Anson Linam

Patrick Anson Linam, age 60, resident of El Paso, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving wife Gabriela and his entire family. Pat had fought a courageous battle against cancer for a year and a half. Pat was born on March 24, 1947 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Evelyn Linam Larson and Ernest Delbert Linam. Due to his father’s military service, Pat lived in many different places to include France and Okinawa as well as making his final home in El Paso, Texas. It was his adventurous spirit that allowed him to become an accomplished musician, Master PADI Scuba Dive Instructor race care builder, Private Investigator, El Paso County Bailiff and his most loved experience, a K-9 officer for the El Paso Independent School District Police Department. He served in the Department for 8 years with his faithful K-9 partner, Snoopy. Pat was married to his loving wife, Gabriela and they had just celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary October 18th. They shared their life together in love and happiness with their daughter; Sandra, son-in-law; Alejandro and grandson; JuanPablo Soto. Pat attended Irvin High School, graduated in1965 and attended classes at UTEP. He began working for the Southern Pacific Railroad and in 1967 joined the US Army with the 1st Infantry Division, Chemical Corps. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon his return to civilian life, he continued to work at the Southern Pacific Railroad until he purchased and managed the InnerSpace Dive Shop in El Paso. Texas. He was able to skillfully teach and certify hundreds of El Pasoans how to safely enjoy the adventures of scuba diving. After selling his business, Pat worked in several capacities all of which were affiliated with his love for the Criminal Justice System. It was his last position as a K-9 Police Officer and Narcotics Handler assigned to Franklin High School that he accomplished many certifications and achieved recognition in Narcotic Detector Dog Association competitions. The EPISD Polic Department’s Team along with Pat and his faithful partner, Snoopy won the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association Competition in 2004. He continued his work with the EPISD Police Department through his sessions of chemotherapy and radiation as it gave him strength and allowed him to continue doing what he truly loved. Pat is survived by his loving wife, Gabriela, Daughter, Sandra, son-in-law, Alejandro and grandson, JuanPablo Soto, his sister, Tisha Linam Onick of San Diego, nieces, Carrie Onick-Reyes and her husband, Angel Reyes of El Paso, Texas and niece, Amy Onick of Dallas, Texas, his sisters-in-law Rosa and Angela Calles, and nephew Jorge Felix of Tijuana, Mexico, his nephew Juan Jose Felix and wife, Loli and their daughter, Daniela of Mexico City, Mexico., Step-brother Tom Larson and his wife, Sherri of Escondido, California, step-sister Linda Goudilocke of Tucson, Arizona. Pat was Preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Larson and Stepfather,Gale(Bud) Larson. Pat’s family would like to thank the El Paso Cancer Treatment Center Staff, Drs. Byron Chesbro, Anuradha Gupta and Victor Diaz. Special thanks to the “Angels” of the VNA Hospice who gave loving care and support to Pat, Gabriela and the entire family. Visitation services will be held Sunday, November 25th from 5-7pm at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler on Monday, November 26th, an EPISD Police Processional will meet at 8:30 am at Sunset Funeral Home-West and will proceed to Ft. Bliss National Cemetery for graveside services with Military Honors and EPISD Honor Guard at 9:30 am. Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Pat Linam to: VNA Hospice of El Paso, 4171 N.
