Otilia “O’Mama” Aurora Fierro went with God and Sal on Friday, November 19, 2010 after her illness got the better of her. Her children and grandchildren surrounded her when she said goodbye. She was born in El Paso on January 1, 1920. She went to El Paso High and graduated from Loretto Academy.
Her marriage to Salvador Fierro took her across the western states until 1960 when they returned to Fort Hancock, eventually getting back to her childhood neighborhood of Sunset Heights. She was beloved by her grandchildren who would accompany her from El Paso to their hideaway above Fort Hancock. She was known to travel those 150 miles faster than anyone alive.
She is survived by her son, Armando Fierro; daughter Isabel Fierro Taylor; sisters, Magdalena Bustamante (Enrique), Georgina Hernandez; grandchildren, Bradley Taylor (Saskia), Vanessa Evans (John), Tony Fierro (Breann), Pamela Ninos (Chris), Miriam Dunn (Wes); 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends. Vigil will be at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Holy Family Church. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Holy Family Church. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West. Please visit our online register book at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
