Oscar Eli Honig (1919 - 2009) Oscar Eli Honig, 90, departed from this earth on Thursday September 24, 2009. He was greatly loved by his family and will be forever missed. Mr. Honig was born on April 2, 1919 in New York City to parents David and Anna E. Honig.He graduated from Peter Stuyvesant High School at age 16 and City University of New York at age 20. He earned both a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry. His continued education at University of Houston earned him a degree in pharmacy in 1952. He worked as a pharmacist in the Houston area and received a 50 year award from Texas Pharmacy Association for his dedication to the profession of pharmacy. He proudly served in the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Aircorps, Provost Marshall and sharpshooter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Rubye Marie Capps Honig, his parents David and Anna E. Honig and his sister Mildred Honig Raps. He is survived by his wife Hazel M. Harris Fondon Honig, daughters Martha Honig Boone (James) and Nancy Honig Elton (Richard), six grandchildren: James Byron Boone lll (Jacqueline), Michael Patrick Boone (Kimberly), Robert Browning Boone, Lt. David Benjamin Boone (Patricia), Lindsay Erin Elton, and Johnathan Richard Elton, five great-grandchildren: James Byron Boone lV, Jacob Benjamin Boone, Juliana Boone, Makenzie Marie Boone and Jackson Eli Boone and brothers-in-law Louis Rapps and Jack Harris (Susan). He was cared for lovingly and patiently by the Ambassador staff at Monte Vista. There really are angels among us, and they work at Monte Vista through Home Instead. Their names are Claudia Ayala, Helen Esquivel, and Maria Gonzalez. Other angels who cared for him include: Dr. Jesus Gomez, Irene Cardoza, Jesse Martin, Carla Lozano, Malena Hernandez. Their kindness was beyond measure. Services to be held Monday, 9/28/09 at 11:00am at the Monte Vista Retirement Center, 1575 Belvidere, El Paso, TX.
