Oscar A. Gutierrez, Jr. (Pingua), 71, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He came into our world on a Monday in October 1950. A native son of El Paso’s "Segundo Barrio," Oscar grew up on the south side. He attended Bowie High School and graduated a proud Bowie Bear in 1970. He married his eternal love, Armida, in 1972, with whom he lived in blessed matrimony for 50 years. Like his father (Oscar, Sr.) before him, Oscar worked for the railroad (Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific), dedicating more than 40 years to his vocation. More than anything, he cherished spending time with his beloved family – his wife, daughter, son, grandson, and daughter-in-law. He enjoyed playing at the local casinos, taking his chances at the horse track, playing card games with extended family, and showing devotion as the Dallas Cowboys' and Yankees’ biggest fan. Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar, Sr., Candelaria R., his daughter Melissa, and his brother, Jose M. Gutierrez (“Shorty”). He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Armida Gutierrez; children: Debra and Jimmy (Dolores) Gutierrez; grandson, Sebastian Gutierrez; sisters: Maria B. Urquidi, Sylvia Roberts, and Yvonne Lafayette; and brother, Michael A. Gutierrez. Oscar also leaves behind dozens of cousins, several Godchildren, adoring nephews and nieces, loving in-laws, and numerous friends.
