ORLANDO MONTES, 85, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023.
Orlando was born in Fabens, Texas in 1937. He served in the US Marine Corps (2 years active), US Army (2 years active) US Army (4 years reserve). Orlando was married to Emma Trevizo for over 61 years.
He began working at a very young age in the lower valley farms in Fabens and Clint. After his military service, he worked with the Lower Valley Bus Lines, and after 26 years retired as a welder from the City of El Paso. He was an incredible cook and owned the Ysleta Bus Stop Restaurant. After it was sold, he continued his excellent cooking skills with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman he also excelled in woodworking and gardening. As a devout Catholic, he volunteered his services at San Antonio Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Emma. He leaves behind Orlando Montes Jr. (son), daughters Yvonne Lino (Dave); Belinda McMillan, grandchildren Arthur James (AJ) McMillan, Adrian Lino, Shannon McMillan (Leo Lopez), Dylan Lino and siblings Hector Montes (Conchita), Irma Ledesma (Mike) and Isela Davis (Doug).
Visitation will be held from 4-8PM; Vigil/Rosary 6PM, Tuesday March 28, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Homes – East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday March 29, 2023, at San Antonio Catholic Church, 503 Hunter Dr. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
