Norma Alva Garcia passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 79. Preceded in death by her loving parents Phil and Genevieve Alva. Survived by her husband of 59 years Aurelio (Lelo) whom she loved dearly and will forever watch over him. Daughters Sylvia Goggin, Sonia Kornegay (Manny), and Salena Delatorre (Tom). Six grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart, Patrick Goggin, Shane and Shannon Kornegay and Darielle, Taylee and Vincent Delatorre. She attended Austin High School and El Paso High School where she graduated from. She was a volunteer at Thomason Hospital and El Paso High where later worked as a study hall attendant for the students she spoke about, and remembered with love. She always said that every student will treat you with respect if you listen and respect them. She loved collecting crosses, beautiful porcelain dolls and loved writing poetry. Her famous saying was “if you see someone without a smile give them one of yours, especially if they are old, because when they are old and sickly there is not too much to smile about.” A saying that will forever be a part of our everyday life. Visitation: 5:00pm-9:00pm with Vigil/Rosary: 7:00pm on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass: 9:30am on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Committal Service: 10:30am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
