Our beloved father Norikazu (Nori) Yamashita passed away July 9, 2021 at the age of 92 after a brief illness. His children JoAnn, Carol and Richard were at his side at the end. Nori was the 7th of nine children and was born to Yonekichi and Yana Yamashita on Oct. 24, 1928 in San Jose, CA. Life was difficult for the family of share croppers. During WWII the family was held at internment camps in Heart Mountain, Wyoming and Tule Lake, CA. After the war Nori joined the US army and became a career soldier. He was deployed to various locations in the world. He was highly decorated and received many citations, badges and medals. He retired after 29 years as a Sgt Maj and was a long time resident of El Paso, TX. All who knew him described him as a humble man of quiet strength who was kind and generous to his family and friends.
Nori is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and his wife Yoshie Yamashita, who he lovingly cared for several years until her death. He leaves behind his children JoAnn Yamashita (Robert), Carol McCann (Anthony deceased), Richard Yamashita (Gloria,) grandchildren Aaron Fong (Inge), Catherine McCann-Carey (Steve), Josephine McCann, Emily Yamashita, Bryan Yamashita and three great grandchildren Kylie Yamashita, Penny Fong and Fiona Carey.
Nori was a warm and caring father who doted on his children and grandchildren. His family loved him greatly and he will be deeply missed. We are left with fond and loving memories.
