Nita T. Jones

Nita Torres Jones, 83, entered her eternal life from her home on February 7 following a bout with lung cancer. Nita was born in the Philippines on March 21, 1928. In 1946 she met Lt. Edward E. Jones who was stationed near her hometown of Angeles City. After his return to the US he brought her over under the provisions of the Alien Fiancee Law, and they were married in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore, Md., on July 17, 1948. She was the mother of eight children, six of whom grew to adulthood. Traveling from post to post with her husband she was always active in PTA, church, scouting, and community service. Nita is survived by: Edward E. Jones, her husband of 63 years, son Edward Jr. of San Benito, TX, John Paul of Abilene, TX, Teresa Christensen (Doug) of Lubbock, TX, William F. (Karen) of San Antonio, TX, and Raymond T. (Wendy) of Grand Prairie, TX. She is preceded in death by: daughter, Maria Nita, and sons, Stephen Lee and Lawrence Alan. Her surviving sisters are Rina Steed of Sylmar, CA, and Naty Dalina of Manila, and her surviving brothers are Virgilio and Antonio in the Philippines. She also has eight grandchildren and one great grandson, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She is much loved and will be missed by many. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home, Hondo Pass, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Sunday, February 12, with the vigil service (Rosary) at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, February 13, with the burial in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
