Nicolas Rangel, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 19, 2018. Nick was born in El Paso, TX on December 31, 1927. He dropped out of Bowie High School when he turned 17 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps to proudly serve our country during World War II. After he returned, Nick followed in his father’s footsteps and became an automobile mechanic. In 1948, he took over his father’s garage and it became Nick’s Automotive. He was a foreign car specialist being named one of the top 100 mechanics in the country by Champion Spark Plugs in 1976. His passion was car racing where he built and owned the “Mr. Nick” car racing team that won numerous races in the Mexican Road Race Series. After dedicating his life to cars he finally retired and turned off the lights to his passion in 2007. Nick is preceded in death by his parents; Cirilo and Severina; and Sisters Teodora Dunaway and Guadalupe Ellis. He leaves behind sons; Alfonso, Samuel, Nick Jr (Maria), and daughters Elaine Rivera (Fred), Jessica Davis (Dwayne), Nicolette Duran (Joseph); thirty grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; brother Gonzalo and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass: 9:30am on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. Committal Service: 11:00am Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
