It is with great sadness that the family of Natalia Savchenko announce her passing on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the age of 66 after a twenty-year battle with cancer. Natalia will be remembered by her husband Robert Bandy and son Andrei Savchenko, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Natalia was predeceased by her father. Natalia was the product of the former Soviet Union where she earned a Doctorate Degree in philosophy and linguistics as well as representing her homeland in the Olympics. She moved to Mexico before the USSR fell and her 19-year love affair with Mexico City included its traditions, cultural, people, and history. She taught as a professor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, National Polytechnic Institute, University of the Americas at Puebla and other institutions. Her love for her adopted country was apparent in her mannerism, speech, and knowledge of its intricate history. Natalia participated in academic cultural programs in Germany, Bulgaria, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Salvador, and others. She taught at the university level at UTEP and Fort Bliss after moving to El Paso. She loved participating in theatre and was adapt in more than five languages. It was her belief that El Paso was one of those exceptional places on earth where the dreams and plans of many countries blended together. Services for Natalia Savchenko will be held at the Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive, 20 December 2021. Viewing will start at 4:00 PM, Services at 6:00 PM with a special tribute from her beloved “Viva Mexico” cast and friends.
