Naomi S. Echlin

Naomi S Echlin, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010, at the age of 89. She was born on September 13, 1920 in Port Arthur, TX to John and Georgia Pattison Stanley. She grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1942. Naomi married her college sweetheart Robert "Bob" F Echlin on Christmas Eve, 1942 in Cheyenne, WY where Bob was stationed as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps. After the war, Naomi embraced the role of homemaker and new mother moving with Bob in his insurance career, first in California followed by Albuquerque and finally to El Paso in 1955. Across the years, Naomi developed her interest in weaving by taking lessons and attending workshops in Arizona, New Mexico, New York and Finland. She was a founding member of the Weavers' Guild of El Paso. Naomi also served her community with volunteer work with Planned Parenthood, the YWCA and with Trinity-First United Methodist Church. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years in 2001 and by her sisters, Jane Terrell of Navasota, TX and Patsy Davis of Groves, TX. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Junelle Echlin of El Paso, her daughter and son-in-law Celeste Echlin and Samuel Walker of Harwinton, CT, her son and daughter-in-law, John and Doris Echlin of Abu Dhabi, UAE and Luzerne, CH; her grandchildren, Alison Brake, Betsy Haddad and Ian Echlin; her sister Alpha Mell Stuart of Del Mar, CA and brother and sister-in-law John and Clemence Stanley of Burton, TX. A Service of Celebration for her life will be held at Trinity-First United Methodist Church in El Paso at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 24, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice El Paso, Good Samaritan Society - White Acres - El Paso and Trinity-First United Methodist Church. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
