Miriam Graff Wilson

April 22, 1923 — May 6, 2007

Miriam Graff Wilson, 84 years old, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at her home in El Paso, Texas. Miriam was born on April 22, 1923, in Hayward, CA. and moved to the El Paso area when she was in grade school. She spent many of her early years on a remote ranch in western New Mexico and attended school in Anapra, New Mexico, now known as Sunland Park. She attended high school at Valley High School, now Gadsen. There she met her husband, Roy G. Wilson, and they were wed on December 9, 1939. A gifted artist, Miriam was a published poet, painted in oils, owned a successful ceramics shop, and was a certified graphologist. Life on the ranch encouraged her artistic side and her writing, as well as her expertise in horses and a love for the outdoors. She served as local president of the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, an organization dedicated to the preservation of American history and was an active memver of Grace United Methodist Church since 1952 where her husband Roy was the organist. There she taught classes and once served as president of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Miriam will be remembered as a passionate, inspirational woman. On the book jacket of her collection of poems entitled The Journey, published in 1964, she says, "Love is the journey - life begins and ends with it." Her poems and her life expressed her love of man, family, nature, and God. Miriam is survived by her husband Roy G. Wilson, four children, Sharon, Linda, Judith, and Gary, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren as well as her brother, Edmund Graff. Memorial services for Miriam Wilson will be held at Grace United Methodist Church; located at 400 N. Carolina at 10:00 am Thursday May 10, 2007. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
