Mildred Lydia Hobson

Mrs. Mildred Lydia Hodge Hobson was born November 9, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to Kenneth and Doris Hodge. She was the second of ten children. She graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 1963 and became a seamstress making children and adult clothing for twenty five years and then chose to pursue a career in teaching. Mildred then moved to El Paso, Texas in 1990 where she attended the University of Texas at El Paso, majoring in English and minoring in early childhood education. Mildred graduated with honors from UTEP in 1995. Mrs. Hobson became a special education teacher where she inspired and mentored many children in the El Paso, area. In the complex world we live in Mildred strived to help others that couldn’t help themselves; in doing so our family name “Hobson” has been recognized on the wall of Tolerance located in the Civil Rights Memorial Center in the heart of Montgomery, Alabama, a city famous in the struggle for human rights. She was also a published author in the National Library of Congress journals of poetry. Mildred Lydia Hobson is survived by four children; Catherine Bryant-Brown, Mary-Ellen Hobson, Frank Hobson and Kenneth L. Hobson, five grandchildren; Terrea Bryant, Christopher Burns Jr., Angie Hobson, Zamar Hobson, and Zacaree Hobson, She has also left behind a host of nieces and nephews, and dear friends. We love you Mommy, you will be greatly missed. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Wednesday, July 13, 2011 with a Vigil at pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass time is pending for Thursday, July 14, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
