Michael Lee Givens, 58, passed away Monday, February 7th 2022 after a four-year battle with ALS. Mike was born October 1, 1963 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Lee Dale and Dessie Marie Givens. Having moved a lot as a child, Mike had a true appreciation for traveling and adventures. He loved music, art, visiting new places and flying. Mike also had a passion for education, as he truly was a lifelong learner. Mike had several degrees including an Associates in Commercial Art, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Mike had several jobs and careers in his lifetime to include: commercial artist, a disc jockey under the name Mike “Big Dog” Givens for both Fox92 FM and KSET, and a real estate agent but most importantly Mike taught special education for 11 years at both Berino Elementary School and at Aldarete Middle School and was an assistant principal at Terrace Hills and Guillen Middle Schools. A doting father, Mike created a home for his two daughters, Wyndi and Allyson Givens and was actively involved in Girl scouts, school events, and projects with his children. In 2012 he met the love of his life, Patricia, and married her in 2013. Their blended family included a stepson, Luis and stepdaughter, Monica. Along with his wife, children and son in-laws Jorge Soto and Wyatt Worrel, Mike is survived by his brother Steve Givens and Sisters, Cathy, Donna and Mickey. He is preceded in death and is joined in heaven by his Father, Mother and older brother, Dale Wayne Givens. Funeral Services for Mike Givens will be Friday, March 4, 2022 at 5PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 480 N. Resler, El Paso, Texas.
