Miguel "Mickey" Solis Obituary. Miguel "Mickey" Solis was born on October 21, 1940 in El Paso, Texas. He passed away in a motor vehicle accident on July 5, 2009 at the age of 68. Miguel Solis grew up in the Sherman housing projects and the area referred to as "La Roca." He was a proud graduate with honors from Jefferson High School in 1958. His ambitions and desire to make a difference drove him to work his way through college and receive three degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso (Texas Western), the University of Texas College of Pharmacy in Austin and from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin in 1972. He had a profound love for El Paso which drew him to humbly serve the community. In 1978, he was elected County Commissioner of Precinct 2, a position he filled for two terms. In 1982 he was named Jefferson High School's Outstanding-Ex, and in 1984 was the President of the UTEP Alumni Association. He was a noble civil servant, a loving father, husband and brother, who will be missed by all he touched. Funeral Services are set for Monday, July 13 at 11 a.m. as St. Joseph's Catholic Church on 3729 Hueco Avenue. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Felipa Solis, sons Miguel Solis, Jr., Javier Solis, Gabriel Solis and daughter Renee Remi Solis Snyder. He was a loving Grandfather to Emma, Eliana, Miguel, Rafael Solis and Ned "Cinco" Snyder, V. In lieu of flowers, you can honor his memory with a donation to the Miguel "Mickey" Solis Scholarship fund through the El Paso Community Foundation. The Scholarship is designed for graduates of Jefferson High School and Silva Magnet Schools with dreams of pursuing degrees in Law or Pharmacy through programs at the University of Texas at El Paso.
