MELVIN Galloway, the second child of Limas and Bertha Galloway was born June 11, 1943 in Anderson, South Carolina. The Galloway parents and children moved to Cleveland, Ohio when Melvin was at the age of 3. Melvin graduated from the Cleveland Public School District before his enlistment in the United States Military in 1961.
MELVIN was active in military services for 24 years before his first retirement. He then began his employment with the federal government in the Department of Missile Defense until his second retirement in 2013, a total of 52 years of service.
MELVIN life and passion was his Love of Jesus Christ. Melvin was an Ordained Elder in the Church of Christ. And, He was an Assistant
Pastor at Holy Life Church of God in Christ and Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. He also taught Bible Class for many years until his health declined.
Melvin enjoyed life and loved the company of family and friends. Melvin's interest included, but was not limited to; gardening, fishing, watching boxing matches and football games. As a native of Cleveland, Ohio, Melvin cheered on the Cleveland Browns, but was also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
MELVIN met and married Georgia Harris-Turner in 1975, and from this union came a blended family of four.
MELVIN was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He lived 81 years to the fullest, laughed often and took advantage of all that life had to offer. Melvin touched the lives of all he encountered.
MELVIN was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Awaiting his arrival and welcoming him were his wife Georgia, daughter Veloria, parents Limas and Bertha, 4 sisters Susie Lee, Bertha Louise, Kathryn Jean and Dorothy Bernice, brother-in-laws Willie James Harris and William Powers, and sister in laws Shirley Harris and Claudette Harris.
MELVIN leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Melvin Jones (Joyce), Joe Turner (Alicia), one daughter Gina Brown, brother Limas Galloway (Cynthia), brother in law Eddie Harris and Alvin Harris, sister in laws Margie Jones(Eddie) , Ossa Harris, and Brenda Powers, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00am - 12:00pm with a Funeral Service to begin at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Holy Light Church 5922 Trowbridge Dr. Committal Service to follow at 2:30pm on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave.
