Melville (Mel) Irving Levenson, age 97, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 14, 2025 in El Paso, Texas. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be dearly missed. Mel is preceded in death by his parents: Solomon Hyman Levenson and Lena Bromberg, as well as his siblings: Bessie Farber, Sydney Levenson, and Jeannette Braunstein. He is survived by his wife Arlene Joyce Levenson; his children Karen Levenson Ivey (John), Steve Levenson (Dori), and Kenny Levenson (Betsy); his grandchildren Jillian Ivey (Ross Currie), Lindsay Ivey Molliconi (Justin), Grant Levenson (Kellye), Katelyn Ivey, Katie Levenson, Ryan Levenson, and Dana Levenson, as well as his great-grandchildren Logan Levenson, Emery Currie, and Mason Molliconi. He is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor his memory.
A graduate of Texas Western College (UTEP), Mel served in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in May, 1953, as a Second Lieutenant. After two years in retail, working with his father at the Bazaar department store, Mel had a lifetime career in real estate, starting in 1955, then opening his own office in 1963. Mel served as a past Director of the El Paso Junior Chamber of Commerce and of the National Foundation and Men’s Club of El Paso. He was also a Charter Member of the Matrix Society at UTEP. In addition to a vast number of real estate transactions, he served as an appraiser in the settlement of properties in the Chamizal Treaty. Over the span of his career, Mel mentored many young real estate professionals, all of whom became successful Brokers.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 3911 Gateway Boulevard West. Service will be livestreamed at sunsetfuneralhomes.net via Mr. Levenson’s obituary tribute. Honorary pallbearers are Lowell Nussbaum (deceased), Bryan Abraham (deceased), Marvin McCorgory, Andy Avila, Gill Stoltz and Manny Estrada.
