Maywood Brandon was born August 6, 1908, on the small family farm near The Stocks in Alberta, Canada. She was raised on the homestead by her parents and worked and played with three brothers and one sister. In her early adult years she graduated from a teacher’s college and educated children in a one room schoolhouse in Canada. In 1929 she emigrated to the United States and became an American citizen. Maywood eventually moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1942 and became an executive secretary, retiring in 1962. She loved to travel, was an excellent cook, and an avid golfer who was active in and supported several women’s golf associations for over fifty years. In those years she met and became friends with many women who shared her joy of the outdoors and the game of golf. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Uland, of Port Orchard, Washington; her daughter, Bonnie Martin, of Summerville, SC; her son, George Brandon Drennan (Victoria), of El Paso, Texas, as well as three surviving grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. After a sudden and brief illness she was determined to take the final climb without hesitation or fear, February 1, 2009. A private Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
