Mary Lou Salcido, 53, passed with dignity in her home on April 27, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in El Paso, Texas on March 6, 1968, Mary Lou (Lulu to her multitude of friends and family) attended Riverside High School where she excelled in band, basketball, and cross-country before pursuing studies at San Antonio College of Medical and Dental Assistants. Twenty some years of dedicated work followed, up to the day when Lulu was given the chance to sit it out by her forever love, Ruben. A devout Christian, Lulu never wavered and seldom did she judge the book by its cover…evident from the friends and acquaintances she made from all walks of life. She told it like it was, yet had a vulnerable side like we all do that sometimes exposed her hand. For that, we should be eternally grateful. Mary Lou is pre-deceased by her parents, Jose Jesus Ortiz and Mary Lou Ortiz, and her brother Andy Ortiz. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Ruben Salcido and her faithful cockatiel Birdie. She also leaves behind brothers Joe Ortiz, Jr. (Diane) and George Ortiz (Mary), her sister JoAnne Ortiz (Joel), mother-in-law Rose Salcido, sisters-in-law Valerie Burch (Pete), Andrea Holt and Camille Calderon (Edmundo), and a multitude of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention, but who all deserve the same attention and respect. Visitation 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Vigil/Rosary at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, May 04, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 05, 2021 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 7424 Mimosa. Graveside Service to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery.
