Mary Rodriguez

Mary Rodriguez, 97, passed away on November 15, 2022. Born on January 6, 1925 in Douglas, Arizona, at an early age, her parents moved to beautiful El Paso, Texas and have been here since.

She was a graduate of Bowie High School in 1943, after she attended Business College and later Community College to upgrade her secretarial skills. In her teen years, after school and during the summer she worked at Interstate Theaters for three years. Then she worked as a clerk for Sears Roebuck for 9 years, and spent one year working Purchasing and Contracting for Fort Bliss. She lastly worked in the attendance department at Irving High School for 13 years.

Mary was a proud member of the Emblem Club, Elks affiliated for many years. She also held the Financial Secretary position and enjoyed assisting with community projects, especially Drive-A-Meal. After retiring from Irving High School, she took Guitar classes at El Paso Community College. She also enjoyed spreading cheer to many seniors in El Paso, including Nursing Homes, Chamizal, and the Civic Center, where she was known as “Rhythmic Seniors.”

In 1954, she married her high school sweetheart Guadalupe Rodriguez. She was blessed with three fine sons, Carlos, David, and Jacob.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Salome Reza and Antonio Reza, brother Robert Reza, sisters; Linda, Tillie, Bea, Fina, Minnie and Alice as well as her loving son David Rodriguez.  She is survived by her sons, Carlos and Jacob.  She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda and Audrey, daughter in law Michelle, godchildren Danny Hernandez, and Sonia Vidal, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, with Rosary at 6:30 PM on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Mass will take place at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9025 Diana. Committal Service will follow at 10:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
