Mary Elizabeth “Betsie” Robinett, a long time El Pasoan, died early Friday morning, December the 18th at her home with family. She was 72.
Betsie was born February 12th, 1937 in Los Angeles, Ca. to Theodore Clinton Daeuble and Marion Williamson Daeuble. The Daeuble family found its way to El Paso where Betsie graduated from El Paso High, class of ’54.
Betsie then attended the University of Arizona where she met Eugene “Gene” Robinett. They were soon married and off traveling the country and the world as an Air Force family.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, she and Gene returned to El Paso where Betsie, with her daughter Kimberly, owned and operated a women’s clothing boutique called La Paloma. After this chapter, Betsy turned her energy toward spiritual and charitable concerns at St. Patrick’s with the Eucharistic Ministry, Altar Society, the sandwich ministry and as a Sacristan. Outside of St. Patrick’s, Betsie also was active with “Meals on Wheels”, PEO, and the Serra Club of El Paso.
Betsie is survived by her four children; Kathryn Thompson (Mike) of Newburgh, In., Troy Robinett (Denise) of Haymarket, VA, Kimberly Morrell (Tim) of Sandy Valley, NV, and Todd Robinett of Portland, OR; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Col. Eugene D. Robinett USAF(Ret.), her brother Tad Daeuble, and granddaughter Kristine Thompson.
Memorial gifts can be made in her name to St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 1118 N. Mesa St. or the animal rescue charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm, Monday, December 21, 2009 with a vigil at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Tuesday December 22, 2009 at 9AM. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
