Mary Katherine Murphy

Mary Katherine (“Mama Kathy”) Murphy, 79, our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, “THE Cool One”, friend and true Angel on earth was called up to Heaven on April 22, 2012. She was born May 20, 1932 in Henderson, Texas to parents Tessie Vera and Eddie Bolton. Mary Katherine is preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Charles Donald Murphy and her “buddy” and life companion of 30 years, Ken Morris. She is survived by her son, Mike (Carmen) and daughters, Donna Murphy and Pattie Longnecker, 5 grandchildren, Todd, Jason (Melissa), Donny Henderson (Loretta), Jennifer (Dan) McGregor, Ashley and 3 great-grandchildren- Isaac McGregor, Halee and Sarah McGregor, her sister-in-law Nelda Bolton, nephews, Wayne and Bob (Judy) Bolton, nieces, Elaine, Eva and Rachel Cox, great nephews, John and James Bolton and many, many, many precious friends. We all LOVED her so very much- her smile, her witty sense of humor and her kind spirit- there’ll only be one “Mama Kathy”; our Belle of the Ball. Mary Katherine had a passion for nursing and proudly worked as an RN throughout her career. She attended Baylor University and graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing (El Paso) in 1954. She worked at the El Paso Health Department with Dr. Edward Egbert, worked at Sun Towers Hospital (El Paso) for 28 years and finally retired from nursing full-time in 2000, but continued to administer seasonal flu shots as late as 2011, which she looked forward to doing every year. Our “Mama Kathy” was the foundation of our family and a true inspiration to us all. She always had a soft shoulder when her “babies” needed one to cry on, a firm hand when we (often) deserved it, a guiding hand when we were lost, and a loyal and dear friend to so many. Our “Mama Kathy” is and always will be DEEPLY LOVED and will be IMMENSELY missed by us all. THANK YOU to the Team of Physicians and the remarkable healthcare professionals at Providence Memorial and Las Palmas Rehabilitation who took such wonderful care of our favorite girl.
