Mary Patten Monyhan (1920-2010) Mary Patten Monyhan, age 90, died at the MonteVista in El Paso, Texas, on August 20, 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Ann McFadden, of Hendersonville, NC; her sister Beatrice Patten Finethy of Alton Bay, NH; and her friend and companion, Dorothy Hurtado. Mary was born in Stoneham, MA on July 25, 1920 to Clifford and Marie Cleveland Patten. She attended school in Stoneham through her junior year. She graduated from high school in Marblehead, MA, after her parents moved there in 1937. She attended the College of William and Mary and graduated from Simmons College in Boston in 1942 with a degree in library science. She met and married her husband, William (Bill) James Monyhan, while working at the Yale University library in New Haven, CT. Bill, a WWII veteran, was commissioned in the U.S. Army right after their marriage and they began their life of travel and adventure. They lived in cities across the United States and in Germany, France and Belgium. They retired in El Paso, Texas where Bill served as the Garrison Commander and later moved to Charleston, SC. Upon Bill’s death, Mary returned to El Paso where she took up residence at the MonteVista. She was a member of the DAR and continued her passion for reading.
