Martin Slater, a cherished member of the El Paso and Ruidoso communities and a devoted educator, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 88. His passing marks the end of a life filled with love and dedication to his family and friends.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Martin moved to El Paso when he was nineteen years old. He taught at Caldwell, coached and taught at Jefferson and Bowie, and ended his career of 59 years at Coronado. He was an inspiring teacher, and his commitment to education and his students left a lasting impact on those he served.
Martin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys Slater, and his parents, Louis and Dorothy Slater. Martin is survived by his daughters Carrie Gutierrez (Richard) and Donna Slater (Liz), and his grandchildren Elyse Gutierrez (Erin) and Lauren Sandoval (Jaime). Each of them will remember him with great affection and gratitude for his influence in their lives.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 10:30 AM at B’nai Zion Cemetery, 3915 Gateway West.
The family extends their gratitude to all who have supported them during this time. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
