Martha Calhoun Prime

Martha Ford Prime passed away February 20, 2011. She was born in Belcher, Louisiana on June 22, 1917 to the late James and Mittie Ford, and moved to El Paso as a young girl. She married Col. N.P.Prime in March of 1944, and they spent their early marriage in the military, stationed in Cleveland and Louisville, and at times were stationed overseas. When Col. Prime retired from active duty, they returned to El Paso, where they raised their son Nick Jr. Martha was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in El Paso, and served on the Altar Society at St. Patrick’s. Martha was actively involved with Beta Sigma Phi for more than 50 years, and was also a member of The Women’s Club of El Paso for over 40 years, serving at one time as President of the club. She enjoyed travelling, painting, reading, and was an avid supporter of The Humane Society. Martha was happiest when anticipating or planning an event-a dinner party, a cruise, or a road trip. Martha was preceded in death by Col. Prime, her husband of 51 years; her sister Sali Evans; her brother James Ford; and her granddaughter Amy Prime. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Nick and Deby Prime; grandsons Paul Meeks and wife Lindsay, and Sam Prime; five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
