Martha J. Ortega

Martha J. Ortega, 75, lifelong resident of San Elizario, Texas was called by the lord on January 1, 2023. She was born to the late Jesus Gonzales and Reyes (Lara) Gonzales. Martha Worked as a dental assistant, for many years. Later she stayed active in her community as a volunteer at San Elizario Catholic Church, became PTA President, and cheerleader coach for San Elizario Elementary. Martha continued to stay active at the school district. She worked and retired from San Elizario ISD, where she was a teachers aid, substitute teacher, attendance clerk, and secretary. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe S. Ortega, brothers Eduardo Gonzales and Jesus Gonzales Jr. She is survived by her son Joe G. Ortega (Tamara) her sister Maria Payan and many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes – East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at San Elizario Catholic Church, 1556 San Elizario. Interment will follow at 11:00 AM at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
