Martha "Mimi" R. Ludwick

February 4, 1937 — September 4, 2024

El Paso

Martha Richards Ludwick, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on September 4, 2024. Martha was born on February 4, 1927 in Kerrville, Texas to Frank F. Richards and Mary Vann Richards. She was the youngest in a family of seven children and was close to all of her siblings. Martha's family moved to Temple, Texas when she was a junior in high school. It was in high school that Martha met her future husband, Lester Ludwick. Martha and Lester were married in Temple on June 5, 1947 and moved to Austin, Texas, where Martha worked and Lester finished his college degree at University of Texas. A proud native Texan, Martha resided in Gainesville, Iraan, and Houston as Lester pursued his career in the oil and gas business, finally settling in El Paso, Texas in 1959. It was here that they continued their marriage of sixty-seven years, creating a loving home and raising their three children. Martha was an active member at First Presbyterian Church, attending services and teaching Sunday School. She volunteered at Putnam Elementary where her children attended school, and from 1975 - 1982, proudly worked as an aide in the resource room at Putnam. A skilled bridge player and lover of games, Martha was a willing Crazy Eight player with her grandchildren, teaching them the value of a game well played and fairly won. Martha was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed handwork of many varieties – milestones in our family were marked by gifts of counted cross stitch, knitted blankets, or hand sewn clothing. She enjoyed traveling and upon Lester’s retirement was able to share adventures together to places such as London, Maine, and New York. But her favorite adventures were wherever her kids were. She rarely missed a milestone event: a family reunion, church confirmation or baptism, music recital, graduation, or wedding. She delighted in the company of her family at all times, just being together and enjoying a shared meal and shared conversations - complete with sage advice. Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son Larry and wife Donetta of Mansfield, Texas, her daughter Laura and husband Dennis Svatek of El Paso, and her daughter Mary and husband Brent Thompson of El Paso; eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Our family wishes to express our deepest thanks to the staff at the Monte Vista, to the wonderful and caring members of El Paso Hospice, and especially to her loving caregivers, Gloria and Ana. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-West. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice El Paso, 1440 Miracle Way, El Paso, TX 79925 or online at www.hospiceelpaso.org/donate.
