Mark Travis Peyton, Jr.

October 8, 1940 — December 1, 2024

Mark Travis Peyton, Jr., 84, peacefully passed away on Dec. 1, 2024, at his home in El Paso, TX, after battling numerous types of cancer throughout his adult life.

Mark was born on Oct. 8, 1940, in Olney, Illinois, to Mark Travis Peyton and Berdella Kincaid Peyton. His family would move to Midland, TX, where he graduated from Midland High School in 1958. Mark graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1962. He was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and a Ross Volunteer.

He served our country with honor as a member of the United States Army, retiring after 21 years of service with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His Army assignments included three years in Germany, two years in Vietnam, one year in Korea and four years at the Pentagon as a member of The Army General Staff. He also received a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso.

His career after the military included four years at Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant and more than a decade working in industrial real estate brokerage in El Paso at RECON Real Estate Consultants and Wolfe Real Estate. Mark was known for his honesty and integrity in business, and he took pride in doing good work for his clients.

After retiring, he provided many hours of volunteer service to Habitat For Humanity and the Rescue Mission of El Paso.

Mark was an avid tennis player who was known as a fierce competitor on the court. He was passionate about maintaining his home and yard, proudly doing the work by himself and regularly being applauded by his neighbors.

Family meant so much to Mark. His lifelong connection with his brother Bailey and sister Diane and their families always was present, even if they didn’t see one another often. He supported his children in every way, and he took great pride in their successes. He was happily married for 49 years to Rosanne, gaining love and strength from her, especially during his latest cancer experience. The family extends special thanks to everyone at MD Anderson Cancer Center, especially Dr. Valerae Lewis and Tadd Pullin.

Mark is survived by his wife Rosanne Blaugrund Peyton, his son Mitchell (Jennifer) and grandson Brady; his daughter Brette; and his brother Bailey (Jeraldine) and his sister Diane (Tom), and five nieces and nephews.
