Mark Robert Lucas 1958 – 2025
Mark Robert Lucas found peace in Jesus’ arms on February 3, 2025.
Mark received a BA in Psychology in May of 1980 from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology, in December 1984 from the University of North Texas in Denton Texas. While at the University of North Texas he worked as a teaching fellow.
He served in the United States Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer from 1985 to 1989. He lived for a time in Germany while traveling with his family as a child and while in the Army.
Mark worked as a Habilitation Treatment Coordinator at the Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center, Decatur, Alabama from October 1989 to April of 1990.
He worked from 1991 to 2002 in several positions at Life Management Center for MH/MR Services, El Paso, Texas, including Special Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer.
Mark worked as a Standardized Patient for the Texas Tech Paul L. Foster School of Medicine from 2011 to 2021 assisting medical students in honing their diagnostic skills and improving their bedside manner.
Mark loved music and had a beautiful voice. In 1995 he sang in the International Festival de la Zarzuela for the Texas Commission of the Arts program. In 1996 he played the role of Jesus in the University Presbyterian Church production of Barabbas. He participated in El Paso Gilbert and Sullivan productions including the 1999 production of Patience and the 2000 production of The Mikado. He enjoyed a professional engagement with the El Paso Opera Company’s Artist-in-Residence Program from August to October 2002.
In 2006 Mark wrote a book “A Perspective on Power” and in 2008 self-published a book “Choosing Your Way to Power”, both addressing how God shares His power with us.
Mark was preceded in death by his father and mother Robert and Emma Lucas, and by his step-mother Tomiko K. Lucas, whom he cared for during the last decade of her life. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Faith Lucas, his brother and sister-in-law, Grant and Pat Lucas, his nephew and niece-in-law Robert and Kaity Lucas, and other loving nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be from 11:00am - 1:30pm with a Prayer Service to begin at 12:30pm on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home - Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr. Committal Service to follow at 2:00pm on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave.
