Marjorie Fay Jones

June 28, 1937 — November 20, 2022

El Paso

Marjorie Fay Jones peacefully passed to be with her heavenly Father on November 20, 2022, while surrounded by her beloved family.  Marjorie (Marge) was born to Riley Wade Abernathy and Myrtle Abernathy in Kenedy, Texas, on June 28, 1937.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband Larry Richard Jones and parents.

Marge grew up in Kenedy as an only child, but was surrounded by a close network of family members who lived in the same small-town community.  She was closest to her cousin, Aline Cass, who grew up with her and with whom she remained inseparable throughout life. Kenedy was the type of community where family and friends depended on each other and no one was a stranger.  Marge maintained those close family ties and friendships, which carry on today through her children.  Those that knew her described her as a very warm and caring person, always willing to help others, who reflected and glorified God through her actions as a loving friend, wife and mother.

Marge met her husband Larry while attending college and working in San Marcos, Texas.  They fell in love and married in witness to God, friends and family on May 31, 1957.   Over the years they had three children, two daughters and a son.  The family moved to El Paso, Texas in 1971, where they found a church home at Mountain View Baptist Church.  Marge faithfully served as the Pastor’s secretary for over forty years before retiring.  She loved going to work every day and the many people she served all those years as if they were her own family.

Marge is survived by her three children and their spouses: Jorie (Christopher) Licking, Wade (Kara) Jones, and Rebecca (Matthew) Licking.  She is also survived by a wonderful legacy through her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the sparkle in her eyes and whom she loved so dearly: Nichole Licking, Tommy (Michelle) Licking, Jennifer (Calvin) Haynes, Lauren (Alexander) Hollister, Calvin Jones, Savannah Jones, Tyler Licking, Brett Licking, and great-grandchildren Allison Haynes and Brendan Haynes.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Mountain View Baptist Church, 4959 Hondo Pass Dr, El Paso Texas, 79924, at 2 PM on Friday, 25 November.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Mountain View Baptist Church to be used for the body of Christ and community outreach in her memory.

Hebrews 12:1-2

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

John 14:19

“Because I live, you will also live.”

Mother,

Thank you for loving and teaching us that Jesus is the founder and perfecter of our faith, and that because He lives, we can face yesterday, today and tomorrow.
