Marilyn Claretha Mills Whitehead, left Sunday 02 July 2023 in the mid-morning hours to her next adventure with the Love of Her Life, Philip Whitehead. She was 82 years old.
Born 26 August 1940 to the late Jimmie Mills and Frances (Redden) in Hamtramck, Michigan. Marilyn graduated from high in May 1958; married Philip Whitehead, March 1959-2019; birthed four children; studied and completed a Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement with a minor in Business; employed at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department as the First Female Sergeant Deputy and retired in 1996 with 20 years of Law Enforcement Service.
Marilyn’s favorite things to do were to spend time with her Grandchildren, cook southern food, and sing Amazing Grace.
Her Husband, Philip, of 60 years, second born son, Marcus, and Grandson, Jamal, preceded her in death. Marilyn is survived by two Daughters: Felicia and Husband Thomas Walters and Rose and Husband Richard Hopkins; also survived by nine (9) Grandchildren and nine (9) Great Grandchildren ; and Marilyn's surviving siblings one brother, Ronald (June), three sisters Peggy (Ike), Susan and Nancy.
Services are scheduled for 10 July 2023, starting with viewing at 0900 at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass. The following services will follow immediately after viewing: 1000hrs Funeral services and 1100 hours for the Burial Service at Fort Bliss.
