Maria Del Carmen Vela

Maria Del Carmen Vela, 75, was born on April 19, 1949, in Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico. She came to the United States in 1969 and spent much of her life as a devoted military spouse, traveling the world and raising her three sons.

 In 1988, Carmen settled in El Paso, where she worked for various agencies and dedicated herself to raising her children. She retired in the mid-1990s, devoting her time to her family and her faith. A devoted follower of the Lord, Carmen lived a life centered on prayer, worship, and sharing God’s word. She was always ready to offer prayers and support to those in need. 

Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Borunda and Josephina Campos, and her brothers, Enrique and Arturo Borunda. She is survived by her sons, Juan (Yvette), Adrian (Sueann), and Abraham (Karla), along with her grandchildren Morella and Vanessa Vela, Adrian Vela Jr., Isaac and AJ Vela, Isaiah Grijalva, Ruben Sigala Jr., and her great-grandchildren Alani Vela, and Anissa Grijalva. She is also survived by her siblings Maria Dolores Barcenas, Rosa Santiago, Luz Elena Navarro, Margarita Borunda De Rivas, Armando Borunda, Antonio Borunda, and Carlos Campos.

As the beloved matriarch of her family, Carmen will be remembered for her unwavering strength, unconditional love, and radiant smile. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Carmen’s caregivers, Luz and Ashley Martinez, Blanca Medina, and the staff at Hospice of El Paso for their compassionate care and support.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East. Interment will follow at 11:15 AM at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
