She was born Maria Vazquez and because she was baptized as Nieves, that is the name she was called all her life.

Her parents died very young and she became head of the family at a young age taking care of her brothers and sister.

In her later years the thing she most enjoyed was being with her family, traveling, reading, knitting and cooking.

Her parents, her brothers and sister all passed before her and she also lost her husband Marcos Vargas, two infant children and two adult sons: Primitivo Vargas and Jesus Vargas and a Grandchild: Mario Pacheco.

Left behind to remember her: One daughter Lupe (Rogelio) and 3 sons Rutilo (Sylvia), Marcos (Mila) Miguel (Terri); 21 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.

She is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Eulogy at 6:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes– East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 17, 2023 at La Purisima Catholic Church, 328 S. Nevarez. Interment will follow Mass at Socorro Cemetery.
