Maria Elifonsa Ortega

Maria Elifonsa Ortgea “Poncha” Born on July 30, 1936 to her loving parents Aniceto Ortega and Maria G. Ortega in San Elizario, Texas. Poncha is survived by her sister Paula Ontiveros and her brother Arturo Ortega, USMC (Ret.). She had a large family, six of whom have passed on, Arturo, Efrain (Frankie), Martin, Miguel Roberto (Bobby), Martha and Aniceto Jr. Poncha also had many nieces and nephews. Poncha left school at an early age to help her Dad raise the family after her Mother passed away. She liked to cook, making tortillas de harina and frijoles. She loved baking biscochos and rosette cookies during the holiday season. Poncha did all these with music in her heart and singing as she cooked and baked. A favorite last place for her was Hooters where she enjoyed wings and an occasional piña colada. Pallbearers: Mike Ortiz, Mathew Padilla, Arturo Arellano III, and Victor G. Rodriguez. With open heart and arms she blessed us all.
