Maria Elena Laje

Maria Elena Laje, 93, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012. Maria Elena was a resident of El Paso with her husband Dr. Luis J. Laje M.D. since 1971. She was born in Cordoba, Argentina on September 17, 1918 and married Dr. Laje in 1953. They raised six children together and celebrated 49 years of marriage before Dr. Laje’s passing in 2002. In June 1965 she immigrated to the United States with her husband and six chidren and all became citizens. Prior to coming to El Paso, the family lived in Rhode Island and Massachusetts from 1965 to 1971. During her life she traveled widely with her husband throughout the United States, parts of Europe, South America and Mexico. Her beloved children Maria Laje Romano and Juan Carlos Laje precede her in death along with her husband Dr. Luis J. Laje. Maria Elena Laje is survived by her daughter Lucila Laje Dorsett and husband Rollie Dorsett, of Austin, TX, and her three sons: Luis Laje and wife Angelica Laje, Gonzalo A. Laje and wife Lori Laje, and Fernando H. Laje, all of El Paso. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. All her loved ones and friends will dearly miss her. The world is a better place because of her. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the six months of dedicated care, love and friendship given by Maria Elena’s caretakers Elizabeth and Polo Garcia, God gave them a true servant’s heart. A Memorial Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, August 17, 2012 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
