Maria de Lourdes Cordero

Maria De Lourdes Cordero Castañeda, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 18, 2024. Lourdes was born on February 09, 1943, in Delicias, Chihuahua. She met her husband, Pedro (Pete) J. Cordero, in El Paso, TX., where they married and raised their 8 beautiful children; Alma (Bruce), Rosa, Marco (Shirin), Pedro (Carrie), Julio, Judy†(Gus†), Dina (Ricardo) and Isaac (Melissa). 

Lourdes was employed at Farah Manufacturing Clothing Co. for 30 years. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She helped raise all her grandchildren residing in El Paso, TX. Grandchildren include Christian, Judy, Dominique, Trinity, Ethan, Victoria, Alexandria, Vincent, Marc, Madelynn, Marcus, Jacob, Lauren and Cailey. 

Lourdes was a strong woman who believed in education. She, with her husband's guiding hand, encouraged all their children to attend a university where they all received their degrees. Motivated by her children’s success, she too, graduated from UTEP with a degree in Education in December of 1997.

Lourdes enjoyed cooking and baking for her extended family and friends. She enjoyed having the reputation of making the finest Mexican food dishes. She was a very generous person, who taught her children how to love, be empathetic, and give without expecting anything in return. She customarily shared her baked goods and meals with her neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Judy, and her husband Pete of 51 years. Her will to give life to her family and grandchildren strengthened her to battle many medical challenges she experienced over the last 24 years. Her family will miss her dearly but are comforted with the knowledge that she has been reunited with her husband and daughter Judy.

Visitation will be held Monday June 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home - East, 750 N Carolina, El Paso, TX. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows, 7712 S Rosedale, El Paso, Texas.
