After three years of serious health problems, Maria Del Carmen “Jovita” Escandon Franco peacefully passed away April 30, 2007 at the age of 82 Born in Smeltertown, she was a devoted Catholic and life long resident of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Vidal Franco, her sister, Isabella Gonzalez, her brother, Antonio Escandon, four sons, Arturo, Manuel, Roberto, and Raul, three daughters, Mary and Lourdes Franco, and Maria Elena Lopez. Her twelve grandchildren include Brie, Luke, John and James Franco, Rodolfo Lopez, Jr., and Teresa Ramirez, Erika and Clarissa Franco, Marissa Franco and Anthony Martinez, Corrie Turner, and Jennifer Alred. Visitations are scheduled Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 5 pm to 9 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a vigil at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be held at 11 am, Friday, May 4, 2007 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Santa Teresa, NM. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
