María Elena Barrio Tabares, devoted wife, precious mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to be with our Heavenly Father on May 27, 2022 in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her loving family. María Elena was born on May 19, 1935 in Villa López, Chihuahua, Mexico. She lived a long and happy life alongside her husband of 63 years, Roberto. María Elena (Ita) enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and quilting a blanket for each one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest joy was welcoming people into her home with the delicious comfort food she prepared eagerly with skill and grace.
Ita was a woman of strong faith, prayed the rosary every night, and was dedicated to her children Robert Barrio Jr., Belen Marchese (Mario), Sergio Barrio, Shelly Barnes (John), Becky Barrio (Louis), and Nilda Mata. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Michelle Phillips (Jack), Alex Arriaga, Andy Arriaga, Brittany Brockman, Sergio L. Barrio, Sydney Barrio, Amia Barrio, John Robert Barnes (Audrey), Autumn Vasquez (Devin), Serena Zubia, Nicholas Mata and Allison Mata including her greatest pride, her 3 great-grandchildren Connor Barnes, Scarlett Barnes and Olivia Vasquez.
Ita is preceded in death by her parents, David Tabares and Consuelo Tabares Sotelo, her sisters Graciela Fernandez and Oralia Torres. Besides her husband, children and grandchildren she is also survived by her only brother David Tabares, and sisters Lydia Navarette, Martha Torres and Altagracia Gallardo, several sisters in law, brothers in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
The Barrio family would like to thank Three Oaks Hospice for the care and dignity provided especially Imelda, Liliana, Catherine, and Norma. We also extend our most heartfelt gratitude to Vida Bella Home Health and her loving care givers Josefa & Cinthia.
Her family takes comfort knowing that Ita is now with God in Heaven. She was greatly loved by all and will be dearly missed!
