Marcelo Lujan, age 83, was born on October 15, 1932 and passed away on September 22, 2016. Mr. Lujan, lovingly known as “El Colitas,” was a lifelong resident of San Elizario, Texas and an honored veteran of the Korean conflict. He was the recipient of many awards for the courage and valor he displayed as an Army Corporal MME in defense of American freedom before being honorably discharged in 1954.
“El Colitas” endured and battled an extended illness with equal courage and valor. He was not only a brave soldier, but also an exceptional father, entrepreneur, builder, hard worker, and helper. Marcelo was a solid brother, friend, and counselor to many. He remains a man of great wisdom to his family and friends.
Marcelo is survived by his loving and caring wife, Anna; his son, Santiago Garcia; his grandson, AJ Garcia; his brothers, Eloy (Leonore) and Joel (Lupe); as well as extended family, including many nieces and nephews. "El Colitas'" family in Oklahoma includes Naomi, Leo, Susan, and Sammy. The Parra family in El Paso, Texas includes Manuel (deceased) and Teresa, Lorenzo (Bruce), and Judy Isabel. He will be greatly missed.
Marcelo is preceded in death by many family members and friends who were all touched by his simple generosity and gentle spirit.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., September 27, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 a.m., at San Elizario Catholic Church. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Americas
