Manuel J. Martinez

Manuel J.(Speedy) Martinez (Manotas), 61, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009. He was a long time resident of El Paso, Texas, and served in the U.S. Army as SGT during the Vietnam War. During his tour he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Comendation Medal and, Air Medal Sharpshooter. He also was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the DAV and a Volunteer at the VA Clinic and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his father Jesus Martinez. He is survived by his wife; Esther Martinez, son, Eric Martinez, mother and step-father Reginalda and Medardo Montoya, brothers; Ralph Martinez, Eddie Montoya and Gabriel Montoya sister; Lourdes Aguilar and 4 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm with a Vigil at 7:30 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home-East located at 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 am on Friday, January 23, 2009 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home- East.
