Chief Warrant Officer (W4) Manuel Martinez United States Army-Retired, age 87, passed away April 25, 2017 after a long and service filled journey. Mr. Martinez is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Kiyoko, three children: Karen Stack (Bob), Thomas Martinez (Marjorie), and Kathy Ross (Glenn). He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren. CW4 Martinez served 30 years in the United States Military and was a highly-decorated soldier for his service during the time of war and peace. He received multiple awards during the Korean and Vietnam wars to include: The Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), The Meritorious Service Medal (2), The Army Commendation Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Vietnamese Civil Actions Honor Medal (1st Class) and numerous others during his three decades of service.
After retirement from active military service he continued to serve through support of the Army THREAT Program and other various military retiree and veterans’ organizations in the El Paso area. CW4 Martinez and his wife also served as host to various visitors from the Japanese Armed Forces and have received many commendations for their support, dedication, friendship and camaraderie among visiting dignitaries. His legacy will live on through the multitude of people he was able to impact through a life of selfless service, Ready and Forward.
Visitation will be from 3:30pm to 6:30pm Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will begin at 9:30am on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
