Manuel E. Apodaca

Succumbed peacefully after a courageous battle against cancer at home on July 17, 2008. Born in Los Angeles California on May 1, 1944, son of Lloyd and Dorothy Brooks of Los Angeles California. Manny a beloved son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and loyal friend. He has lived in El Paso Texas for most of his life. He is survived by his parents, and his loving wife Marie Whitehurst-Apodaca, and his many brothers and sisters Fred, Mary Ann, Rodney, Lori, Mario, Doug, Becky, Audrey and Tony. Manny proudly served his country in the US Army. He retired as Sergeant First Class serving in Air Defense Artillery in 1984 with 22 yrs of service. In 2006 he was given recognition for his service of 40 years with the Government of the United States of America. He worked for UT & C at Ft. Bliss TX. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, sons, Miguel Apodaca and Steven Muniz Jr., daughters, Stephanie Vanone, Marie Miller and Stephanie Johnson and son-in-law Major Johnson, grandsons, Marcos, Miguel Jr., Alvin “AP”, and Ty, Granddaughters, Mercedes, Kelis, Daeyanna and Michelle. He was an advocate and devoted to his family Fraternity, “Loyal Order of Moose”, where he remained active for many, many years. He held the highest degree of the Moose, the Pilgrim Degree. He also was a Past Association President, a Past Legion President a Past District President and a Past Governor and currently served as AZ-NM Moose Association Membership Program Coordinator. He was very instrumental in Instituting the El Paso Moose Lodge #2641 in 2005 where he is currently the administrator of the Lodge. He also was an Endowed Member and a Past Master of the Five Points Masonic Lodge #1137. He was a life member of the VFW 8550. Manny will be missed, but never forgotten. One day we will all meet again. Manny wanted to tell all his friends, who shared his love for the military and the Moose and the Masons “ HOO AH! ” Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
